Zadar, Croatia

In July, I attended a Summer European Law School in Zadar, Croatia! I applied for this opportunity, since I wanted to learn more about Privacy Law and I would have the change to meet students from all over Europe. Also, I was very happy to go back to Croatia since it’s one of my favourite holiday destinations in Europe. The Summer School lasted for a week, and I definitely had a blast. It was a wonderful experience to get in touch with students with 15+ nationalities and share thoughts & ideas. Besides the morning lectures, there was time in the afternoon to explore the city or go to the beach. I preferred strolling through the Old town of Zadar!

One of the most memorable things during my stay in Croatia was experiencing the atmosphere of aftermath of the world cup finals. On the day I was travelling to Zadar, the Croatian team played an thrilling match against France (since I was in the bus without access to a tv, I had to guess who scored by listening carefully to the shouts of joy & sighs of the busdriver) Even tho they lost the game and everyone seemed down in the beginning, the mood changed very quickly to a cheerful one. Big parties were held on the same night and a couple of days after that the footballers happened to visit the city where I was staying! A huge crowd dressed up in red/white gathered at the stage where the national team was welcomed and everyone was proud of their big accomplishment. The atmosphere during that night was something I won’t easily forget.. I still find fascinating that sport can bring whole nations together.

Noordwijk

Since the weather is great here lately, Elisa and I decided to visit one of my favorite beaches in Holland: Noordwijk. Its surrounded by beautiful, unspoiled natural areas of dunes through which you can stroll for miles. Also, since we arrived around 8pm, most visitors had already left which made it a very good place for a relaxing beach walk!

I recently bought a Canon 200D, since my previous camera had stopped working after 5 years of delivering great results. The beach is a wonderful location to play with light during sunset, so I was really looking forward to test my new camera that night…

Tulip paradise

Endless bulb fields & vibrant-coloured tulips, a nature-photographer’s dream…

To get the ultimate Spring feelings once a year, I usually pay a visit to Lisse. From April to May, Lisse literally turns into flower paradise and is also known as Holland’s flower-growing region. Dozens of bulb fields are in full bloom, which makes it an incredible spectacle to watch. Also, since flower park Keukenhof is opened during Spring season as well, hundreds of thousands tourists visit the park every year. This time, my sis & I made our way to the fields on a sunny Friday evening…

Planning a trip to Lisse? Let me share some tips:

-Since the flowers are in bloom for only a short period (around April-May), be sure to check if you’re going during the right time to avoid awkward disappointments.

-If you’re visiting this region for the first time, I recommend going to Keukenhof. It’s very accessible by car/bus and the park is a great way to get introduced to all the beautiful flowers, get more background information and spend a full day with family/friends.

-If you’ve been to Keukenhof already or want to see the real deal, plan a trip to the bulb fields! If you don’t own a car, an easy way to visit the fields is by bike (I’m sure you can find lots of places where you can hire them).

-Before you go, double-check where you can find the fields on Google Maps/other sites, so you won’t be disappointed and lose time if you can’t find them when you solely navigate  to Lisse. Not all of them are easy to find!

-The fields belong to their respected owners, so be sure to treat them with care. That means: never pick any flowers without permission and be as careful as possible if you want to go close to the fields. Not all the fields are accessible and some of them have prohibitory signs in front of them, so make sure act in accordance with the rules.

-Pro-tip: golden hour in the fields is absolutely magical!
