Sights in Copenhagen

To get straight to the point: Copenhagen surprised me in many ways. The city seems to offer something for everyone: from an incredible amusement park to a fairytale-like castle, Copenhagen’s got it all. My four-day stay in the city was too short to cover all the sights I wanted to see, but I did managed to include the ones on top of my list. And then again, this gives me even more reasons to visit the city again in the future 😉

I’ve created a list with 10 highlights of places/viewpoints I would definitely recommend including in your next trip to Copenhagen! Here we go:

1) Glyptoteket

This one-of-a-kind art museum situated in the heart of the city is definitely one of my favourite spots in Copenhagen. Do check out their stunning winter garden and grab a drink at the café!

2) Rosenborg castle

Wanna feel like a prince/princess for a day? Spend a morning or afternoon strolling through this magical castle. Don’t forget to check out the hidden treasure room to admire the gorgeous Royal jewels. Rosenborg castle is surrounded by King’s Garden, where you’ll spot the very picturesque rose garden.

3) Botanical Garden

One of the things I love to do when visiting buzzing cities is escaping to somewhat quieter areas. The big botanical garden situated close to the University of Copenhagen offers the perfect solution! Entry is free, but you do need to pay if you want to check out the Palm house.

4) Illum rooftop

I stumbled upon this place by chance when I was on my way for breakfast before exploring the city. As I walked past the Illum shopping mall, I noticed that there happened to be several rooftop restaurants at the upper floor. Right when the mall opened, I made my way up and got treated with this lush view. Definitely a great place to grab some food any time of the day accompanied with lovely views of one of the busiest streets of Copenhagen.

5) Tårnet Tower

One of the best place to catch panoramic views of the city is the tower of Christianborg Palace. The best thing: it’s totally free of charge! The elevator takes 40 persons at the time to the upper level, so no need to climb many stairs 😉

6) Magstræde

This cobbling street is one of the oldest streets of Copenhagen and super picturesque: look at those beautiful colourful buildings!

7) Frederiks Kirke

This church is also called the Marble church for its late Baroque architecture. During opening hours, it’s possible to take a look inside to admire the impressive dome.

8) Boat tour

If you’re only staying in Copenhagen for a few days, a great way to see plenty of sights within only 1 hour is booking a boat tour. I chose the one from the company called ‘Netto’. Their boarding point is close to Christianborg palace and the tour is very reasonable priced. The boat will also sail along the Little Mermaid!

9) Strøget

A street you almost can’t miss during your trip to Copenhagen: it’s one of the longest pedestrian streets with plenty of shops for all kinds of budgets!

10) Nyhavn

Last but not least: the popular harbour district you’ll spot in all the tour guides and postcards. Probably the most touristy area, but a must-visit to complete your trip! The colourful houses will make you fall in love with the city right away…

Lots of love,

Manisha ♥
